Appolinare to Aquapendente (17 km)
"...but sometimes, the grass don't grow, the wind don't blow, and the sky ain't blue." --"Little Big Man"
When problems arose early in the day we stopped at the side of the road and our two Dutch Angels, Cecilia and Terry, came along when most needed and helped shoulder our burden, providing cell phones (we'll never travel without one again for emergencies), and when no one at the emergency number we called could speak English, a big thank you to the young man who came upon us on the road (the only vehicle we were to see out there on that lonely stretch of road) and offered to drive us to the hospital in Aquapendente, refusing all offers of payment; and another big thank you to the young doctor in the ER who saw us through the window, and who came out, not once, but twice, (while we considered our options...
And two hours later, when we were prepared to pay for those hospital services we were told that no payment was necessary, in Italy the hospitals are free! (we never knew that!); then armed with prescriptions we went to the pharmacy to fill them out.
We definitely had the feeling that those Camino Angels were watching over us that day...
