Our first day on the Camino was a short one, although a hot one. Rather than walk through sidewalks and suburbs of Porto and to avoid the dangerous N-13 highway we took the metro to Maia and began our walk at the Igreja de Maia (Chuch of Maia). Still it was not a pretty walk for the most part: long stretches through an industrial area, narrow roads with little or no shoulders. Occasion sidewalks, but invariably there would be a few cars parked on the sidewalk, forcing us onto the road.
Feet together we are ready to begin our walk outside the Igreja de Maia.
Treacherous roads.
At last some respite from the narrow roads and speeding drivers.
We finally arrived at our Teresa's lovely country house, Quinta das Alfaias, an oasis on the Camino. We are treating ourselves before our long day tomorrow.
